From Certain Affinity:

This video covers the basics of editing using Forge in Halo 4. We'll quickly build a simple Mongoose racetrack using Duplicate, Magnets, and Rotation Snap. People new to Forge should leave with a better idea of how to use Forge, while those more experienced will get a taste of the new features that make editing in Forge faster than ever before.

thanks

That forge is so sexy...

Yug Drater | 11.08.12 11:21 AM

Anybody else find it stupid or funny or lame that they built a race track in Forge when the "Race" game type isn't even supported in Halo 4?

Yug Drater | 11.08.12 2:17 PM

Also, this is the biggest race track you can make in Forge because the maps are so small and filled with pre-existing crap that 343 decided to throw in there.  Makes you kinda miss the size and openness that FORGE WORLD provided, doesn't it?

So when is the advanced tutorial which explains multi-team objective spawning and the user data option coming out?  Seeing a single spawn point function didn't really tell me anything new.  But thanks for showing me how to zoom in.

they need a map that is like sandbox in halo 3 but bigger. They really needed a completely empty but spacious map that is completely devoted to player edited maps and not to have players having to base their maps on the terrain built in the map. Sure, there's some empty room but not enough. This would also be good since there isn't a desert forge map among those three. You should also be able to have more budget and part limit on the "sandbox" map, as there will be plenty of memory per map. regardless of the map size when there is barely any scenery in the map initially.

Please bring back fine editing for halo 4.It made it so easy to move objects around and place them.Since it has been gone it is near impossible to make a weapon rack or to get 2 objects at the same height and coordinate editing takes a lot more time then fine editing ever has there are tons of people complaining about this feature just please bring it back.We all used this feature to death.

How do you make a grifball map

TGSTK7 | 01.05.13 2:13 PM

Thanks. I've been driving myself nuts rotating objects through the menu. Even after looking at the controls on the pause menu, I missed that you could just R-Trigger. I look forward to watching your other videos. If you haven't already answered, what can you do with the "toys?" Specifically, there's a ball and a cup, how do you set that up for scoring, assuming it's possible?

Flossoraptor | 01.17.13 8:49 PM

Somehow, I doubt that this will ever get read.. but I see a few questions on how to do objectives and/or Grifball.

In order to do something like Capture the Flag, you need to go to Forge. Then, in the forge menu, you can choose Game type, Map, and options. Choose Capture the Flag for your game mode. Then, choose whatever map you would like to make CTF playable on. Then, enter forge mode.

Once you have reached the map and begun forging, you need to place a Flag Stand on the map where you would like a flag to be. Once you've placed it, press X while hovering your cursor over it to see its options. Go to Advanced and then to Game Labels. One should be "CTF_Flag_Return" or something like that. Choose that one. Also, in the options for the flag stand, it should ask you to choose which team it belongs to. Choose "Attacker" for Blue, "Defender" for Red. Teams 3 through 8 correspond to the various other team colors, and I assume that you could play a CTF match where there are 8 teams of 2 an

Whoops. Ran out of space in the last post. Continued:

...where there are 8 teams of 2 and 8 different flags. Once you have at least two different flag stands that have the game label "CTF_FLAG_RETURN" (or it might be something different. I would have to go back and look to remember what the exact words are), the map should be ready to play CTF, so save your work and test it out with a friend/second controller. Also, in the options, I would recommend choosing the option that says that the flag stands will be hidden in other game modes. Obviously, there's no reason for them to be there if you're not playing CTF.

The same can be done with Grifball. You must be forging in the Grifball gametype mode. Place a capture plate on the map, and there will be different labels that allow you to make the capture plate the ball's spawn point or a goal. If you want to see how it is done, there is a map variant that is already on your hard drive called "Grifball Court" (which is found under Erosion) t

Flossoraptor | 01.17.13 8:57 PM

(which is found under erosion) that is a working Grifball map. You can open it in forge and look at all of the pieces to understand how they work.

Actually, on that note, this is my advice if you don't know how to forge an objective. Open up one of 343's pre-existing maps in the game mode that you want to create objectives for and look at how they did it.

Also, a warning/complaint about Forge: there is an arbitrary limit to how many of a certain Forge piece you can put on one map. One time, I was forging with 2x2 flat building blocks, and at a certain point I couldn't create or duplicate any more. By my estimate, there were probably 20 or so different ones on the map. I ran into trouble when duplicating crates, too: after maybe 6 crates, I couldn't forge any more. I'm very disappointed!
