Halo 4 Ricochet Forge Contest

By bs angel -

Just like a ricochet, your favorite contest is back again. That’s right, we're back for another Forge contest but this time it is for the new game mode, Ricochet! Our friends at Certain Affinity and Rooster Teeth, with the assistance of the Community Cartographers, are preparing for a BIG response from the Halo community. So put on a hard hat and let’s get to forging!

This contest will be exclusive to Halo 4, and only content meeting the criteria listed below will be considered. We invite you to challenge yourself, your buddies, and fellow Halo 4 friends and foes to challenge convention and build the latest and greatest, soon-to-be-famous, new Halo 4 Ricochet map in Halo 4's Forge. The whole world is at your fingertips, so give it the pleasure of playing Ricochet on your custom-built masterpiece.

Things to consider:

MUSTS FOR CONTEST CONSIDERATION

  • Ricochet game type
  • 4 vs. 4
  • Small to medium map size

ADVICE FOR A FUN RICOCHET MAP

  • A "fun space" to throw the ball in (not overly difficult to pass the ball to a teammate or throw the ball into the goal; the object is to find the sweet spot of a fun skill shot, without going too far by making it overly difficult to score)
  • A space that ensures that it is not overly difficult to transition from offense to defense
  • A "fun space" to score upon
  • A "fun space" to defend against
  • Although not necessarily a straight line, it is a best practice to have three good paths that a player can use to travel from goal-to-goal
  • The defense needs to feel "empowered" to stop the offense at their goal
  • Recommend having three good ball spawns to reduce spawn camping

TECHNICAL MUSTS FOR A GOOD FORGE MAP

  • Map must have safe zone(s)
  • Map must use soft/normal kill volumes to prevent map exploits and keep players in the intended playspace
  • Potential geometry holes must be blocked and/or unreachable
  • Map must have no highly exploitable areas that disrupt game balance
  • Spawn points must be placed in logical locations and face logical directions
  • Spawn points must be “safe” and point at a good point of interest for player orientation
  • Map must have numerous respawn points (players should not be able to be “spawn locked” due to a lack of spawns)
  • Each team must have 4 initial spawn points (1 per each player on team)
  • Must have a minimum of one respawn zone per team (at least 8 respawn points per zone)
  • No spawn points may exist outside of the play area
  • No objectionable content (symbols, icons, anatomical references, etc) may be present on the map
  • Weapons, pickups and ordnance must not get stuck in map geometry
  • Map must have unique load-in cameras which show the play area
  • Players must not easily get caught or stuck on any Forge pieces, man cannons, etc
  • Attempt to limit "over-crowding" your map with Forge objects as it often results in poor gameplay performance
  • Ensure that your map has been properly playtested by your peers
  • A kill volume must be placed around the playspace
